Sporttech Academic Organization – Lecture Event Recording | Event Video Production in Japan

Hello, this is Nagasaka from PalmTrees.

Today, I would like to share a behind-the-scenes look at the filming and production work we handled for the inaugural lecture event of the Sporttech Academic Organization.

From the back of the venue, we set up a fixed wide-angle camera and a long‑lens camera,
with the long‑lens camera serving as the primary operated unit.

Although I forgot to take photos of it, shooting from ground level risked having the speakers and the audience overlap in the frame.
To avoid this, we rented two camera platforms and filmed from elevated positions.

We also placed another camera on the stage-left side of the venue.
This unit was operated by a dedicated cameraman as well.
Recently, 3‑ to 4‑camera setups have become more common, so I am considering adding a few more monitoring displays for multi‑camera checks.

As a backup angle, we set up a SONY ZV‑1M2. Although it is categorized as a VLOGCAM, it features a 1‑inch sensor and starts at an 18mm equivalent focal length, giving it strong wide‑angle performance. To be honest, it performs far better than expected and is very usable.

While the camera can shoot in 4K, recording in FHD 60P allows it to run continuously for two to three hours, making it extremely useful when we need to temporarily increase the number of cameras. I am considering adding another unit.

For safety, we also sent an HDMI feed to the ATOMOS recorder, capturing both in‑camera and monitor‑side recordings as backup. However, in this case, the in‑camera recording alone would have been sufficient.

For this event, we filmed and edited using four cameras: • Two operated cameras at the rear • One operated camera on stage-left • One unmanned camera on stage-right

Having this number of cameras gives the client more variety in the final footage, and it also provides us with greater flexibility during editing. I would like to continue using this multi‑camera style as our standard approach.

We also handled the photography for the group photo at this event. PalmTrees offers both still photography and videography as a one‑stop service. If you are considering event recording or event photography, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you very much for reading. I look forward to seeing you again.
